A Three-Year-Old’s Prophecy (A Re-Post)

From the Mouths of Babes!

We Are in Our Own             Best Hands

I woke up with a shock. Fran had told me of the dream that Zoe, our three-year-old granddaughter, had had the night before. Zoe told her mother that she saw seven fat cows and seven skinny cows. The skinny ones ate the fat ones and burped.

Now, at four in the morning and still very much asleep, anything can seem pretty real, but when my innate intelligence is pointing things out, I take notice. Every grade school kid knows there are seven continents, but I had to get out of bed, go downstairs and turn on the computer to do a search. “How many continents are there,” I queried? Of course, there were twenty answers on the first page, but the first one was, “generally accepted, there are seven.”

A Call to Granddaughter’s Mom

By that time it was 5:30. My daughter Lisa, who lives two time zones away, has to be up by now, I thought. Zoe wouldn’t let her sleep any longer. A very sleepy voice answered my third try. “Oh, sorry, I thought you’d be up by now. I’ve been up for an hour and a half. Have you ever considered the prophetic nature of Zoe’s dream,” I asked? “No,” was the sleepy reply. “Well, I woke up at four this morning thinking about it, and had to come down to the computer to do a search for how many continents there are! As we know, there are seven.” No reply. “I’m sure you’re aware of all the chatter about the increasing drought and floods causing a shortage of food around the world.” I also know that she is aware of this issue from a religious point of view, i.e. the “end times” predicted by the Bible. “Regardless of the source of these conditions, there’s a sizable scientific consensus that this is most  probably our future.” Still no reply.

Inspiration from a Child

“What if the seven skinny cows represent all of the starving people these conditions will cause on every continent, and the seven fat cows represent all of the well-fed and over-fed people on all those continents? The skinny cows eat the fat cows, that is, take over their food sources by whatever means, and then burp, i.e. they are satisfied.” Still no reply. “Think about it,” I said, “ what better than the innocent mind of a three-year-old to receive such an inspiration? She isn’t programmed with all of the many opinions, political and otherwise, that are bouncing around out there about global warming. She’s just mirroring the facts? And, she told you about it, which is also unusual. Has she ever told you about any of her dreams before?” After another long pause, finally a reply, “No,” she said.

“Go back to sleep,” I said. “Sorry I woke you.”

Your conclusions?

Reader, you can draw your own conclusions. As for me, I think we’re in for a rough ride, and I’ll be on the lookout for those skinny cows along the way.
